Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona

<< Back to Robb Report, The Radical 2010 Rapide

The Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, opened in November in a former bank building on the city’s main shopping avenue, Passeig de Gràcia, within walking distance of such sights as Casa Milá and Casa Battló, two of architect Antoni Gaudí’s best-known residential designs. Guests enter the 98-room hotel via a glass catwalk that bridges an eight-story atrium filled with natural light. Before venturing back out to experience Barcelona’s nightlife, visitors can grab a drink at the Mandarin Oriental’s Banker’s Bar, where the ceiling and the wall behind the bar are artfully paneled with the bank’s old safe-deposit boxes. Days can be spent recovering beside the rooftop plunge pool and in the basement, at the hotel’s 10,500-square-foot spa. Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, +, www.mandarinoriental.com
