The crash of bowling pins is at first inaudible as you enter Daly’s Pub & Rec at Montage Deer Valley. The resort’s four bowling lanes—which guests can book as they would a tee time—can be seen but barely heard through the soundproof French windows that separate them from the main pub area, where hamburgers and Montage Mountain Ale have become fast favorites. Open since December, the Montage, too, has caught on quickly in its first winter season, offering that rare combination of refinement and unadulterated fun in a spectacular mountain location.
Set slopeside at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, Montage is the ultimate haven for skiers (but not for snowboarders; Deer Valley prohibits snowboarding). After a lunch break at Daly’s, you can return to the slopes via Montage’s in-house ski shop, where an attendant will slip your boots back on before you walk about 20 steps to your skis, waiting outside in the snow.
Following a day on the slopes, you can head to Apex restaurant for drinks, visit the 29-treatment-room Spa Montage, or make s’mores by one of four outdoor fire pits. Each of Montage’s 220 guest rooms has a fireplace, which you can switch on and off from your bed, as well as bathroom floors that remain heated during the winter. During the summer, the action continues at Montage, with fly-fishing, golf, and other outdoor pursuits all available nearby. Montage Deer Valley, 435.604.1300, www.montagedeervalley.com
