San Antonio

Since Santorini became a regular cruise-ship stop a few years ago, the Greek volcanic island has become a hot spot for the tourist hordes. But last May, a hotel debuted on an isolated stretch of the island, a setting where the Santorini of old—a peaceful perch from which to sit and stare at the Aegean Sea—still exists today.

At the new San Antonio hotel, entire days can be spent gazing on Santorini’s impossibly blue seascapes—whether from your suite’s terrace, the cliff-side dining room, or the lip of the property’s infinity pool.

Owner Antonios Sigalas spent four years developing this seemingly uninhabitable precipice on the caldera’s edge, carving San Antonio’s 26 suites from the volcanic rock. Modern interpretations of Santorini’s traditional cave homes, the suites feature white arched walls, marble floors, bleached furniture, and designer “twig” lamps.

Also styled as a cave, San Antonio’s spa suite offers a private setting that transports guests further still from Santorini’s eruption of tourists. San Antonio, +30.22860.24388, www.sanantonio-santorini.com
