Selman Marrakech

Purebred Arabian horses graze among groves of palm trees at the new Selman Marrakech, a sprawling Moorish-style palace that opened in May at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. The resort’s owner, a leading horse competitor, enlisted Jacques Garcia to design the accommodations for the property’s equine residents, who retire to two palatial stables with a built-in sound system and horse showers. The famed French designer’s finest work, however, was reserved for Selman Marrakech’s human guests.

With hardwood floors and handpainted tile wainscoting, the Selman’s 61 Garcia-designed guest rooms, suites, and riads blend an authentic Moroccan ambience with modern richness. The five riads feature private pools, and the resort’s main pool, at 262 feet, is one of Morocco’s longest.

Drenched in purple and showcasing crystal chandeliers, Le Restaurant Selman employs a French chef who brings Gallic flair to Moroccan tagine dishes. The 12,000-square-foot Espace Vitalité Chenot Spa is an oasis within an oasis, offering bespoke treatments in a quiet setting tucked away from the resort’s main buildings.

Outside the lavish confines of Selman Marrakech, guests can wander the medina (five minutes away by car), play golf courses nearby, or saddle up an Arabian and explore the picturesque countryside surrounding the resort.
