Singita Lebombo and Sweni, Kruger National Park, South Africa

As your host helps you settle into one of the six guest lodges at Singita Sweni, he will point out the accommodation’s many amenities: an outdoor shower, a deep soaking tub, a second bed on a private deck for nights under the stars. Then he will show you the latches on each of the lodge’s doors and remind you to fasten them—unless you want to share the room with the vervet monkeys swinging from the trees outside. Such measures are indeed necessary at Singita Sweni and its sister property, Singita Lebombo, both of which share a 37,000-acre section of South Africa’s Kruger National Park with some wild neighbors: lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the aforementioned monkeys. If not through your lodge’s window, you can view all of these creatures at breathtakingly close range during the camps’ twice-daily safari drives. Lebombo houses guests in 15 lodges, and each of the camps has its own main pool, restaurant, wine cellar, and lounge. The Village, a common area situated between the two camps, features a fitness center and outdoor spa, where you can watch the local wildlife while having a massage.
