Southern California’s Terranea resort grows and harvests produce, including honey, seasonal fruits and veggies, and olives (for making olive oil) either on property or as part of a co-op with its neighbors. But with its singular location overlooking the Pacific Ocean along the Palos Verdes bluff, Terranea’s biggest harvest comes from the sea. In the resort’s Sea Salt Conservatory, guests can learn hands-on how fresh seawater is gathered, naturally evaporated, and processed into mineral-rich sea salts, which are then left plain, smoked, or infused with herbs like rosemary or lavender. The “homegrown” salts are used in the resort’s multiple restaurants and are also available for purchase—a great souvenir of your seaside experience.
