King Tut is celebrating his 100th rebirthday with the farewell tour to end all farewell tours. The 5-year, 10-city extravaganza kicks off in Los Angeles, where in 1978 the Boy King attained celebrity status, luring more than a million visitors to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This time around, with Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, Tut will be in residence at the California Science Center—his only stop in the States before continuing the tour in Europe. The L.A. exhibit, which runs from March 24, 2018, to January 6, 2019, features more than 150 artifacts, making it the largest-ever Tut display outside of Egypt.
The best base for your L.A.-Egyptian immersion is the Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, a contemporary high-rise hotel located less than 3 miles from the museum. After exploring the exhibit’s ancient treasures, take a dip in the downtown property’s rooftop pool, or sit down for a pharaoh-worthy feast at the 24th-floor Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
