Faena Hotel
The opening next spring of the Faena Hotel Miami Beach will not go unnoticed. The hotel has 169 rooms and suites and is part of an entire Faena District that is rising over six blocks in the middle section of Collins Avenue. The Argentinean developer Alan Faena and his investment partners want to create between 32nd and 37th Streets a new heart of Miami like Faena created with another high-profile mixed-use project in Buenos Aires. A team of big-name creatives was assembled to dream up the plans. The Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas designed the dramatic art center, retail space, and parking structure. The 42-unit, 16-story Faena House condo tower by Foster and Partners has reportedly sold out, including a $50 million penthouse unit. The Australian film director Baz Luhrmann and his wife, the costume designer Catherine Martin, have famously been hired to collaborate on the overall design and vision for the hotel. The couple lived in mid Collins Avenue when they first moved to the United States and were dreaming up their breakout film Romeo and Juliet. Their vision is of Miami’s Golden Era. Room rates have not yet been established. (www.faena.com)
