If a hot restaurant opening is reason enough to visit a city, then it’s time to book a flight to San Francisco. In late February, lauded chef Dominique Crenn launched the highly anticipated wine bar Bar Crenn next door to her two Michelin-starred Atelier Crenn. The menu of share dishes is a compilation of classic recipes from celebrated French chefs such as Guy Savoy and Alain Ducasse, plus creations of her own like an omelette à l’oursin. The wine list, meanwhile, includes mostly French and European bottles.
Meanwhile, two Eleven Madison Park alumni (and a restaurateur) have joined forces to open Che Fico, a laidback spot serving up California-influenced Italian food. David Nayfeld runs the kitchen, and James Beard Award–winning pastry chef Angela Pinkerton is in charge of the sweet stuff. They’ve also opened the retro-style diner Theorita in the same building, where Pinkerton will be whipping up both savory and sweet pies.
