Workshop Kitchen + Bar
A firm favorite on Palm Spring’s main drag since it opened in 2011, the James Beard Award–winning Workshop Kitchen + Bar is a welcome alternative to the city’s retro diners and dimly lit steakhouses. Helmed by chef Michael Beckman, the menu features a contemporary mix of seasonal dishes like black cod drizzled in honey-lavender glaze and served with butternut squash purée and Fresno chile, and farro risotto served with a braised oxtail ragu and crispy kale.
Truss & Twine
Just next door to Workshop Kitchen + Bar is another one of Beckman’s increasingly popular outposts: Truss & Twine. The sleek cocktail bar specializes in contemporary twists on classic drinks, and libations like the Brandy Crusta (with cognac, curaçao, maraschino, and lemon) and the Green Philter (with Pernod absinthe, pineapple, lime, and house orgeat) can be ordered from a menu broken down by eras ranging from Prohibition to Tiki.
For a taste of classic Palm Springs, head to King’s Highway at the perennially hip Ace Hotel. Settle into a rust-red booth, and tuck into Mexicali cuisine like wagyu beef burgers, chicken confit, and a vegetarian mushroom “chorizo” with crispy potatoes. Finish off the decadent meal with another Palm Springs classic—a creamy milkshake made with dates grown and dried on local orchards.
The wellness-inspired menu at Azúcar—the poolside restaurant at La Serena Villas—is a breath of fresh air after a weekend of indulging on Palm Springs’ classically heavy food. The menu’s Spanish- and Mediterranean-style dishes, like Moroccan seared tofu with quinoa tabbouleh and sautéed local vegetables and fresh ahi bruschetta, are sure to help you cool down on even the hottest desert day.
