1 Hotels brings Miami’s Collins Avenue in touch with nature.
Why Go: The Atlantic Ocean informs the design of the brand’s first property, 1 Hotel South Beach, which opens this month. Beach-inspired interiors by Meyer Davis complement floor-to-ceiling ocean views at the 426-room, $250 million renovation of the former Gansevoort Hotel. The hotel aims to set itself apart with restaurants and bars by Tom Colicchio, rooms equipped with the latest technology, and eco-friendly perks like Tesla cars to shuttle guests around the city.
What to Expect: Vertical indoor gardens and a fruit stand in the lobby are some early signs that a back-to-nature approach to hospitality is a foundation of the 1 Hotels brand. Woods used throughout the South Beach resort range from Javanese teak root to driftwood, and terrarium gardens decorate guest rooms (from $699). Using an app on their phone or a Nexus tablet provided by the hotel, guests can turn on their air-conditioning, book a spa treatment, schedule a paddleboard yoga session, and request a cabana by one of the four pools. They can also reserve a table at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Beachcraft, which is Colicchio’s first Miami outpost. Meals can also be taken at the STK Miami steak house or poolside at Sand Box. In the lobby, Tom on Collins offers a selection of local beers, wine, and seasonal cocktails. To further sync with Mother Nature, 1 Hotel will host monthly full-moon parties.
How to Get There: Drive your Tesla to the hotel, which is located about 30 minutes from Miami International Airport. A fleet of electric cars will drop off and pick up guests anywhere within three miles of the hotel. (1hotels.com)
