Sneak Peek: Paradise Beach Nevis, St. Kitts and Nevis

The aptly named Caribbean resort features just seven villas and a scenic beachfront setting…

The Caribbean resort of Paradise Beach Nevis remakes a favorite low-key hideaway on the Queen of the Caribbees.

Why Go: An alternative to the Four Seasons Resort Nevis, Paradise Beach Nevis reopened this month with new furnishings, upgraded backyards and pools, and a new management team. The seven-villa development is a 10-minute walk up Pinney’s Beach from the Four Seasons and offers villa-style accommodations (from $1,100) and a beachfront setting without the large-scale resort atmosphere. The development’s concierge can make calls to set up fishing excursions, tee times, horseback rides, and scuba dives on and around the 36-square-mile, round island.

What to Expect: The enclave is not new; its first three four-bedroom Balinese-style villas opened as Villa Paradiso in 2002 and structurally remain untouched. Villa Paradiso closed in 2008, and the new owners have changed fixtures, appliances, and decor in the accommodations. Villas 6 and 7 are closest to the ocean, but all have unobstructed ocean views. With either three or four bedrooms, the buildings all sit close together in two rows perpendicular to the beach. Guests can order drinks on the beach from the casual beach bar, but will need to make reservations outside the resort or call in a private chef for dinner, as there is no restaurant on-site. Spa treatments can be arranged in-house as well.

How to Get There: Fly into Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on St. Kitts and transfer 30 minutes by car to Reggae Beach, where guests board a private water taxi that reaches Nevis in about 10 minutes. Guests flying privately or from San Juan or St. Martin land at Nevis’s Vance W. Amory International Airport, which is a 10-minute drive from the resort. (869.469.7900, paradisebeachnevis.com)
