New York City’s only Relais & Châteaux hotel, the Surrey, will be the VIP hotel partner of the fourth annual Frieze New York contemporary art fair. The event, which runs from May 14 through 17, will take place on Randall’s Island and will bring together the works of some of the biggest names in contemporary art—among them Gerhard Richter, Richard Serra, Richard Tuttle, and William Kentridge—represented by the world’s top galleries.
Just across the East River on the Upper East Side, the 189-room Surrey will host an exhibition of its own titled Revealed: Faces of Our Time, featuring 10 iconic works by the U.S. artist Mark Boomershine. The paintings—which will include portraits of Derek Jeter, Taylor Swift, Daniel Boulud, and other celebrities—will be on display in the hotel’s lobby, with additional pieces on view in the Presidential Suite from May 14 through June 5, joining the hotel’s already extensive collection of contemporary art. Frieze attendees staying at the Surrey during the fair will also have the opportunity to attend a series of events with Boomershine, including an exhibition opening and lecture, both of which will take place on May 14.
