The Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch

The great room at southern Wyoming’s Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch overlooks granite-dotted pastures populated with grazing horses. Chandeliers and armchairs made from elk antlers bring the pastoral ambience inside, where a roaring fireplace, an open bar, and large tables for family-style dining await visitors to this 13,000-acre guest ranch, which opened in May after owner Bruce White had a change of heart.

White, a hotel-management entrepreneur based in Indiana, purchased the property in 2008 and planned to use it as a private retreat for family and friends. But his vision for the roughly 130-year-old ranch—accessible via a 30-?minute charter flight from Denver—soon became as expansive as the Wyoming landscape. Six guest cabins that White acquired with the ranch underwent renovations and are now joined by 33 new accommodations ranging from lodge rooms to three-bedroom cabins. The 28,000-square-foot main lodge houses 13 of the guest rooms plus the resort’s fitness center and spa.

Family-style meals are served three times daily in the lodge, or outdoors at the Chuck Wagon restaurant. Guests work up their appetites during on-site activities that include skeet shooting, horseback riding, rock-wall climbing, paintballing, and mountain biking. Fly-fishing excursions led by activities director Josh Graffam—a regional fly-fishing champion—are available on the nearby Platte River and on the trout-filled Brush Creek.
