The St. Regis Deer Crest Resort

One can reach The St. Regis Deer Crest Resort (435.940.5700, www.stregis.com), situated on 12 acres in an exclusive gated community in Utah’s Deer Valley, by chauffeured vehicle; but to choose this mode of conveyance would be to deny oneself the panoramic pleasures of arriving aboard the resort’s leather-upholstered, climate-controlled funicular, which affords sweeping views of Park City and the Wasatch Mountains during the 90-second ride from the welcome center to the main lobby. Unlike the majority of ski destinations, which favor more traditional alpine decor, interiors at the ski-in/ski-out St. Regis are warm yet streamlined, their combinations of natural textures, colors, and materials subtly alluding to the mountaintop setting. The four upper floors of the 11-story property comprise 26 private residences, while on the lower floors, 67 wholly owned condominium suites with kitchens and fireplaces can expand to accommodate larger groups by connecting to the 114 adjoining guest rooms. Après-ski amenities include a well-warmed infinity pool, hot tubs, a European-style Ski Beach with lounge chairs, and a spectacularly tranquil Remède Spa. The pièce de résistance, however, is Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s J&G Grill, where chef Matthew Harris creates inventive seasonal menus that give an international twist to old-fashioned American comfort food.
