Located in the heart of Mayfair, Claridge’s debuted in 1856, and soon after was graced by a visit from the reigning royals of the era: Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In the 1920s, an Art Deco makeover turned the grand hotel into an English institution, attracting European royalty, fashion designers, movie stars, and statesmen including Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, and the Queen Mother—whose reserved dining table was always dressed with sweet peas.
The property has since been restored and updated by such famous designers as Thierry Despont, Diane von Furstenberg, David Linley, and Guy Oliver—resulting in an atmosphere that combines comfort with glamour, attracting new generations of royals and celebrities to its sparkling public spaces, and 190 spacious rooms and 63 suites. Guests can dine in style, and probably rub-elbows with a few of the royal wedding’s high-profile guests, at the property’s Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge’s.
