Four Seasons Grand-Hotel Du Cap-Ferrat

Luminaries aplenty have dallied at Grand-Hotel Du Cap-Ferrat, the French Riviera’s most fabled palace hotel. Built in 1908, it quickly attracted the likes of Coco Chanel and Jean Cocteau, who adored having tea on the terrace. In past decades (and today), much of the hotel’s buzz happens around the pool. There, octogenarian celebrity swim instructor Pierre Gruneberg lords over the Olympic-sized saltwater pool, which is nestled on a cliff. Some of his most notable students include David Niven, Elton John, and Bono as well as the children of Charlie Chaplin, Paul McCartney, Ralph Lauren, and others.
