Though the Peninsula Hong Kong had long held court in Robb Report’s list of the top international hotels, the property’s switch from its standard Rolls-Royce airport service to a private helicopter that could whisk guests straight from the terminal to the hotel’s private check-in area in 1999 really blew our hard-to-impress editors away. This top-of-the-line transfer (which is still available today for those who crave a bit more privacy than those conspicuous hunter-green Phantoms), along with a myriad of renovations, has helped the 90-year-old property hold its own among an influx of luxe newcomers. And though its daily afternoon tea might be crowded, it’s still one of the best places to see and be seen in this fabulous city.
